CARTRIDGE FILTER FAQS

HOW DO CARTRIDGE FILTERS WORK?

Water is pushed into the filter tank from your pump and flows through the filter membrane. The debris is trapped in the fabric and clean water returns back to the pool.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU CLEAN A CARTRIDGE FILTER?

The same gauge on top of all filters let you know when it’s time to clean.
When the pressure rises 8-10 PSI above the clean starting pressure, it is time to clean the cartridge(s).

HOW DO YOU CLEAN A CARTRIDGE?

Removing the cartridge(s) from the tank and hosing them down gets them cleaned up.
Like all filters, you need to chemically clean them twice per season to remove the grease and oils that will not just rinse off.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU REPLACE THE CARTRIDGES?

Every two to three years is best. Beyond that they tend to fall apart or become clogged.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF A CARTRIDGE FILTER?

Backwashing a sand or DE filter removes the chemically treated and heated water from the pool. Then you replace it with untreated cold water from the hose.
Using the same hose water to clean the cartridge keeps all of the heat and chemistry in the pool.

WHAT ARE THERE DISADVANTAGES TO A CARTRIDGE FILTER?

You cant turn a handle and have it clean itself like a sand or DE filter.
You have to buy cartridges to replace the ones that go bad.
You have to open the filter tank to get to the cartridge(s).
